About Us

A family growing in faith, guided by God’s Word, and following Jesus Christ together.

A Family Growing in Faith

At Elkhorn Church of Christ, you are welcome to come worship, study the Bible, and get to know us. Whether you have attended church for years or are visiting for the first time, we would be glad to meet you.

We are a family of believers seeking to follow Jesus Christ and grow together in faith. Our aim is to let God’s Word guide our worship, our relationships, and our everyday lives. We encourage honest questions, care for one another, and seek opportunities to serve our neighbors.

We invite you to join us as we learn what the Bible teaches and put that faith into practice.

Scripture references: Galatians 6:10; Hebrews 10:24–25; Romans 12:15.

What the Bible Teaches

God

God is our Creator and the source of life. He is holy, just, loving, and merciful. Through His Word, we learn who He is and how we can live in a relationship with Him.

  • Seek Him in faith. God calls us to trust Him and promises to reward those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6.
  • Love Him wholeheartedly. Our devotion to God should shape our thoughts, choices, and actions. Matthew 22:37–38.
  • Love and serve others. Loving God includes caring for our neighbors and responding to their needs. Matthew 22:39; 1 John 3:16–18.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Savior, and our Lord. He came into the world to save sinners and bring us back into fellowship with God.

  • He came in the flesh. Jesus was born of a virgin and lived without sin. Matthew 1:18–23; Hebrews 4:15.
  • He died and rose again. He gave His life for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day. 1 Corinthians 15:3–4.
  • He reigns and will return. Jesus ascended into heaven and will come again. Acts 1:9–11.
  • We follow His teaching and example. Being His disciple means learning from Him and obeying His Word. Matthew 28:18–20.

Worship

Our worship is an opportunity to honor God and encourage one another. We seek to worship Him in spirit and truth, following the teaching and examples found in the New Testament.

  • Singing. We sing together without musical instruments, offering praise to God and encouraging one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16.
  • Prayer. We bring our thanks, concerns, and requests before God. Philippians 4:6–7.
  • The Lord’s Supper. Each Sunday, we remember Christ’s sacrifice by sharing in the bread and the fruit of the vine. Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26.
  • Bible teaching. We read and study Scripture so we can understand God’s will and apply it to our lives. 2 Timothy 3:16–17.
  • Giving. Our members give willingly to support the congregation’s work and help others. 1 Corinthians 16:1–2; 2 Corinthians 9:7.

Salvation

Salvation is a gift of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. We cannot earn forgiveness, but God calls us to respond to the gospel with faith and obedience.

  • Hear and believe the gospel. Faith comes through hearing God’s Word and trusting in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:17; John 3:16.
  • Repent of sin. We turn away from sin and choose to follow God. Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30.
  • Confess Jesus as Lord. We openly acknowledge our faith in Him. Romans 10:9–10.
  • Be baptized into Christ. In baptism, we are immersed in water for the forgiveness of sins, sharing in the likeness of His death, burial, and resurrection. Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3–4.
  • Continue walking with Him. The Christian life is a continuing commitment to follow Jesus, grow in faith, and seek His forgiveness when we fall short. 1 John 1:7–9; Revelation 2:10.

The Church

The church belongs to Jesus Christ. He is its head, and His Word is our guide. Our desire is to be Christians who follow the faith and practice taught in the New Testament.

  • Christ is our foundation. We look to Him for our identity, purpose, and direction. Matthew 16:18; Colossians 1:18.
  • Scripture is our authority. We seek to follow the Bible rather than establish additional religious creeds. 2 Timothy 3:16–17.
  • We grow together. Christians encourage one another, bear one another’s burdens, and serve as members of one body. Hebrews 10:24–25; Galatians 6:2.
  • We share the gospel. We want others to know Jesus and the hope found in Him. Matthew 28:18–20.
